Thank you for visiting Traveling-in-Heels. I am currently out of the office on travels. I fortunately, will have limited access to email, cell phone, and other daily distractions. If you need an immediate travel fix, you can follow me on Instagram at @TravelinginHeels. I return in due time with great new content to share with you.
Where am I?
Prompted by a wedding in the Santa Cruz mountains, Traveling-in-Heels is heading to Northern California. I’ve always loved the West Coast for its sunsets and diverse geography of beaches and mountains, and have even considered switching coasts. But, since I could never kick New York forever, trips to the Bay Area are frequent.
For this trip, I want a new perspective and refreshing new look at California. So, I’m hitting the road, heading north to Napa Valley. I’ll be cruising up Route 29 in Silvercar’s suped up Audi A4 car rental, with stops at Napa’s rustic luxury farm property The Carneros Inn, Oakville’s two prestigious sister wineries Far Niente and Nickel & Nickel, on through to St. Helena staying at the incomparable Meadowood Resort & Spa and lastly to Calistoga to visit America’s oldest sparkling wine producer – Schramsberg Vineyard.
Now I’m not all glitz and glam, and very much appreciate the great outdoors. As this trip overlaps with the Fourth of July, I want to escape to a place where I can appreciate this great land of ours. What better way to experience that, than on-board Amtrak’s California Zephyr five hour train ride through canyons and valleys to reach North Lake Tahoe?
I’ll be switching gears at the Plumpjack Squaw Valley Inn, exchanging wine tastings and tours for hiking, biking and riding trails. It’s here I’ll have the space to reflect on what I love most about America – our freedom.
I look forward to showing you a unique side to Northern California and an adventure you can do solo or with friends. Follow the journey here and be sure to check-in on me by following @TravelinginHeels on Instagram. Got any tips or suggestions? Tweet me at @travelnheels.
